About our speakers

Abi Durrant

Professor of Interaction Design, Open Lab, Newcastle University

Abi is Professor of Interaction Design and Director of Northern Health Futures (NortHFutures) Hub, a cross-sector consortium for the region that facilitates collaborative research for the community-centred design of digital health technologies.

Abi is a designer, researcher and educator in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Her research-through-design practice addresses the design challenges we face managing our health and wellbeing in everyday interactions with digital, AI, and data technologies. She has a special interest in research on digital mental health and wellbeing, promoting creative and participatory approaches with people in the places that they live and work.

Beth Sanderson

Senior Designer, E3Design

Beth is Senior Designer at E3Design, where she works to turn early ideas into commercially viable, manufacturable products. With over 8 years' experience, Beth leads involvement with a variety of projects and industries, from consumer, dental, medical and more, covering aspects from discovery phases to conceptual, design for manufacture and commercialisation.

Beth will cover the design process, from the importance of user-insight and collaboration, to converting these learnings into impactful and manufacturable design solutions.

Clare Lavelle

Founder, Aniseed Creative

Clare is the founder of Aniseed Creative, a Durham-based brand and graphic design studio that takes complex ideas and content and turns it into clear, engaging communications through thoughtful design.

With a background in engineering and healthcare research, Clare works with a range of sectors and organisations making sense of what they do and communicates this with clarity, character and purpose.
